Lost Coast Outpost Radio News

I listen to KMUD radio while driving around at work. After beer o'clock, while out in my garage, I listen to whatever that 105.5 FM station is. The Lost Coast Outpost does a super brief news announcement every half hour or hour on 105.5. What gets me is it's always the same story- someone gets arrested, or a big pot bust, over and over.

I can't blame them for my probably having read that same story online. I do wonder if they have to always feature the same story probably four times the whole time I'm listening. They usually have more than one story on their web site. Can't they or the radio station feature more than one?

Rant over.

Did they replace Dronkers yet? Maybe they're short handed. I hardly listen to radio anymore. KSLG or CD's are my soundtrack.

They've been doing this since I've been listening to them, I believe. I used to listen to KXGO but, since they went by the wayside, I picked that 105.5. I don't pay attention to any of the names, except for LoCo News which is either J.B. Mathers or our very own Tom Sebourn.

It's kinda neat hearing LoCo on the radio, but the same thing over and over again?

What do you expect from a website that primarily copies and pastes police, fire, and CalTrans press releases?

If you want interesting, pay attention to the major stories the Times-Standard and Mad River Union break that LoCO remains silent about.

Uh, the Lost Coast Outpost does not do a super-brief radio news report for Cool 105, nor anyone else.

I believe they're LoCo stories and they mention "from the LoCo", or something along that line. I'll be sure and listen to make sure today.

That's cool! Tell me what you find.

In any case, though, we have nothing to do with the production of these segments.

I'm pretty sure they say something like, "From the Lost Coast Outpost..." either before or after their little news blurb. It almost makes it seem as if they're connected with you in some way but, when you think about it, it doesn't...really.

LoCo is available to all for free. Nothing says they can't use it for their version of local news, so long as you're given credit. I just think they could do more than one item over and over. I usually turn that radio on around 2:30ish and listen for maybe 3 hours. Always the same one over again. Maybe they do a different one earlier on?

It must have been something I wrote here yesterday?

About 4:40pm they did the first one I heard, but I kinda missed it. The segment was on the pot raids on the Yurok reservation. Once I heard him talking about pot, my eyes rolled up into my head and I zoned out, only to return to normal when I heard, "...this is J.B. Mather".

About an hour later they did the same story. They didn't mention LoCo.

Shame. I don't care about them mentioning LoCo. I just don't like the same story over and over. They're still doing that.
